Toby is a very sweet boy who we believe to be a Crested/Chihuahua mix. He was found wandering the streets of Pittsburgh 13 years ago. His new foster mom calls him Toby the Tiger, because despite his small size, he will bark to protect his family and home!Toby's owner of 13 years had to go to a nursing facility and the family was planning to euthanize Toby due to his age. A family friend agreed to take him and try to find him a home and that is how Toby came to Hope's Haven.
Due to his age, Toby does have some bladder problems and is on medication to treat it. He is staying dry during the night and he sleeps in his crate. During the day, we try to let Toby out about every three hours or so. When he is let out regularly, he has no problems with his incontinence. Toby receives eye medication to treat dry eye and is also on medication for a cough due to a collapsing trachea, which is not an uncommon problem in small breed dogs.
Toby's previous owner spent all of her time at home. Because of that, Toby does not like to be left alone. If he is left for more than about three hours, he stresses. This causes him to become incontinent and to cough, which aggravates his collapsing trachea.
Toby would do best with someone who is home most of the day. He loves to be carried, sits quietly in a doggie knapsack, enjoys taking walks and travels well in a car. He loves to go to the office with his foster mom and for trips to the local Pets Mart. He will spend all of his time just sitting next to you when you are home or following you to wherever you go in the house and laying down just to be near you. He gets along well with other dogs, but Toby is an older boy and he is not interested in playing with other animals. He is a very sweet boy who would love to share his remaining years with someone who wants a quiet, loving companion.
If you think Toby is for you, please read our Adoption Procedure Information Sheet before contacting the Foster Home for information on how to adopt.
*Note: Toby is being fostered in Florida.
