Hello, my name is Jorge. I must have looked pretty yucky when I arrived at the shelter in Tennessee, because no one wanted to touch me. My skin was in bad shape with lots of open sores and I smelled pretty bad too. I kept hearing them say I would be better off put out of my misery, but I did not want to die, so I prayed that someone would rescue me. My prayers were answered. A nice lady named Georgia came to the shelter to see me and she told me not to worry, she was going to try and save me. She kept her promise and got me out of there just in time. She took me to her vet and they said I had a bad case of demodectic mange AND heartworms. YUCK!Georgia took great care of me, but next thing I know I’m travelling to Florida. Once I arrived in Florida, another nice lady, also named Georgia (guess you can figure out how I became known as Jorge) met me and became my foster mom. She was crying as we rode back to her house and she kept saying something about whoever did this to me should be punished.
My next adventure was with her vet who has treated me so well over the last few months. He said I had the worse case of mange he had ever seen and told my foster mom that I would probably cost her a lot of money and may not improve. He said something too about putting me out of my misery. She told him to go ahead and do whatever it took to make me better. I spent two days each week at the vet clinic getting treatments for my mange and had to take lots of yucky medicine. All the vet techs loved me and I loved them too. They said I was the sweetest dog, especially considering how much pain I must have been in.
After several treatments I now look and feel so much better. I did not have much energy for anything and was a bit depressed at first but you should see me now. I’m so happy to have lots of cuddle beds around the house to snuggle up in, my foster mom’s lap for hugs and my Border Collie, Sheltie and Chinese Crested friends to play with. I just strut around and wag my little stubby tail a lot these days. I’m also beginning to grow some hair and all my sores have healed. My foster mom said I was turning out to be a very handsome boy. The really great news is that I am NOT heartworm positive after all. So now I am neutered (ouch!) and well on the mend, so I am ready for adoption. Won’t you please consider me? I promise you will not be sorry. Okay, time for my foster mom to talk now: Jorge is a very wonderful little boy. Here are some facts:
Breed: Not sure what breed he is - could be a coated Xolo or perhaps a rat terrier/mix?
Size: He is the same size as my Chinese Crested, weighing about 12 pounds.
Age: The best guess is around 3 years old.
Temperament: Very sweet, loves to give kisses, very focused and responsive (would be a great performance candidate), loves people, gets along with other dogs.
Good points: Very easy going, crate trained and no destructive habits.
Points to consider:
Jorge occasionally marks (much less since neutered) so suggest a belly band when inside, at least at first.
No children at my house, therefore unknown as to how he is with children.
No cats at my house, therefore unknown as to how he is with other small animals.
My vet states he may need mange dips periodically for the rest of his life.Jorge gets nervous when he hears thunder. He does not panic but is concerned and likes to stay close. He sleeps next to my bed each night, but if he hears thunder, he wants to sleep in the bed. Of course, I let him and he happily curls up next to me and my other dogs.
Whoever is lucky enough to be approved to adopt this boy will be getting one very special little dog.
If you think Jorge is the boy for you, please read our Adoption Procedure Information Sheet before contacting the Foster Home for information on how to adopt.
*Note: Jorge is being fostered in FL
