Hope's Haven - Maddie (now Buffy)

UPDATE (10 January, 2009)

I wanted to give you all an update on her. She is awesome! I have renamed her Buffy, 'Buffy the Teddy Bear Slayer'. I named her that because she can tear up a stuffed animal like nobody's business. She earned her name the first time I gave her a stuffed chew toy. Other than that, she is the most gentle dog I've ever known. I could not have found a better dog for me. I suffer from several health problems and am homebound most of the time. She is always with me, watching over me like an angel. I suffer from severe migraine headaches and she is able to predict when I am going to have a bad one. On a normal day she sits somewhere where she can keep an eye on me but when a bad migraine is approaching, she sits on top of me. Then I know I need to take my preventative medicine. She's never wrong, never.

She's also an alarm dog, always watching over the house and my family. She even lets me know when our local deer and fox are lurking in the woods behind my house. She either hears them or smells them from inside the house. When I adopted her, I had a Yorkie named Caesar. He passed away a few years ago at age 16. I put him to sleep when his kidneys started failing. He was miserable so I didn't let him suffer. She watched over him as well. She wouldn't let anything happen to him. He was so little and frail and she would snuggle up to him when he wasn't feeling so well and keep him warm. She would also hold his leash in her mouth and walk him gently. It was so funny to see. Since his passing she has decided that she loves being the only dog in the house and that's fine by me. She's earned that right.

She doesn't put up with any misbehavior from any visiting dogs either. I keep my brother's and cousin's dogs a lot and she will be the first to let them know what they can and can't do and if they won't listen she comes to me and tells on them. She loves other dogs, but keeps them in line. Buffy is also very prissy, which I find funny because I am a tomboy. She's totally the 'rhinestone collar' type of dog, so I've made sure she has several of them, which she seems to love. Also, when she first gets her summer hair cut sometimes she gets chilly. I keep her in style with lots of doggie shirts. She loves putting those on too. She hates to get dirty and acts like she's a show dog most of the time. It cracks me up. When it's raining and I ask if she wants to go outside she gives me the 'are you kidding me?' look.

My dog always attracts attention when I take her out. People want to know what type of dog she is. My vet has decided she's probably a Crested mixed with a Poodle. She's highly intelligent, like a poodle as well and very hypo-allergenic. So I say she's a Crestadoodle, lol. In the summer I keep her in a very short crested type cut. In the winter I let her coat grow out because she needs it up here in South Carolina. Her coat is so beautiful when I blow dry it out. It's fluffy like a teddy bear and even softer than silk. Since we moved from Orlando to South Carolina, she now has a huge, fenced in back yard to roam.

Buffy is very healthy and as it turns out, she's left-pawed, like me, or left-handed rather. Whenever she wants your attention she will stick out her front left paw as high as she can. It's so cute I can hardly stand it. Buffy is the kissiest dog I've ever seen. She would kiss 24/7 if she could. When I got her she was so raggedy, sad and timid. I could not have imagined that she would be the beautiful crowd-stopping charmer that she is today. I don't know what she went through before I adopted her but she is very much over it and happy!

I'm so thankful to Hope's Haven for giving her to me. It was a match made in heaven. I've never known a happier dog in my life and out of all the dogs I've owned we have the most harmonious relationship. It's perfect. Thanks for all that you do and best wishes for Hope's Haven Chinese Crested Rescue for many many years to come!
