Sunshine was adopted on Saturday 3 December 2005!
This from her foster mom:
'Sunshine went home today. Although I miss her terribly, I could not be happier that Debbie has her. Sunshine loves Debbie and Debbie loves her. She will be spoiled rotten with love and things! She brought some outfits for her today, but a lot were too big.'
UPDATE
Sunshine's doing absolutely wonderfully! We stopped twice for a walk on the drive home and she loves walking on her leash. She also LOVES those homemade cookies that I got her. They're kinda soft when you break them and they smell like chocolate inside even though the ingredients don't say they have chocolate in them. What a chow hound! She would have eaten the whole bag if I let her. I WILL have to buy a gross of them! She alternated sitting on everybody's lap on the way home except my dad's because he was driving but she tried to get to his lap too!
When it got dark, she seemed to get a little anxious and we all thought that she was finally realizing that she wasn't going back home to you. Everytime she seemed a little blue, I let her lick my face or gave her a cookie and she perked right back up again. My dad took a picture of her as we were driving home with her pink sweater with the boa. It's a great photo.
We went over to Heather's place (the zoo) on the way home. Sunshine and Sassy got along famously. So did her and Lance (her other inside dog). The cat wanted to eat her but she instinctively knew to stay clear. Then we went outside and she saw the horses. She wasn't afraid of them in the least bit. We went to grab a bite to eat and she stayed at Heather's while we were at dinner and she hasn't pottied once on the floor anywhere.
We got home a little while ago. After introductions to my mom's dogs and Gizmo, I fed her and we went for a walk around the block. Everyone says what a happy little dog she is. Her tail is wagging constantly. Right now, she's sitting on my dad's lap watching TV and Gizmo has staked his claim on mine.
The little brown sweater fits her fine with the buttons open but it inches up on her back so I'm just going to replace the leg straps with elastic and it will fit her great. Next to her T-Shirts, it fits her better than anything else. Tomorrow we'll take her out and exchange all her clothes.I know how difficult it was to let her go and appreciate all the love and care that you and your entire family gave her. She's so perfect and I know that we're perfect for each other so just don't worry. You made a perfect match.
UPDATE 2
Well we've had a busy week and just love each other! Sunshine and I have been shopping several times with her in the little carry bag that I got her and she was a complete angel until I put her down to write a check and she couldn't see me. As long as I'm holding the bag, she's fine with her head inside but she prefers to have her head sticking out and definitely wants it out when I'm not holding the bag. But she's as quiet as a mouse in it. In fact, one storekeeper said that she was better than most of the kids that people bring into the store. We also went to Petsmart and put her in the shopping cart. Nice try! She wanted to be picked up and held the WHOLE time and as soon as I would put her back down, she'd start rocking and rolling again so I decided that her motto is 'It's all about me!' :-). The next afternoon, my daughter came by the house and had bought her a pink T-Shirt that says 'It's all about me!'. It's perfect for Sunshine LOL.
She won't leave my side. She wants holding unless I'm laying down and then she'll lay next to me. If I'm not here or doing something, my mom becomes the substitute mom and Sunshine goes to her and begs. She loves her walks in the morning and before bedtime and she's been absolutely wonderful about going outside for potty (my mom wants her to teach her dogs!)
We also went to a dog show yesterday with my mom. Sunshine was dressed in her pink leopard collar sweater and pearls and she just walked around that place like she was somebody important. She's just as sweet as I could ever have hoped for. She sleeps under the covers whenever she's not on my lap.
UPDATE (9, March 2006)
Sunshine is absolutely wonderful! I walked her over to the outdoor cafe for lunch the other day and one of the shopkeepers told me that Sunshine was becoming famous around here. She's getting much better when I go out and leave her at home. For a while, my neighbors told me that when I would leave she screamed the whole time I'm gone. My poor baby. Now she's doing much better. I just tell her that I have to leave and she doesn't get upset anymore. She just sits in her bed and watches me leave. Then she goes up to the 3rd story and sits in front of the glass doors so she can look out over the whole neighborhood and watch for me to come home. She still goes ballistic when I get home. Chasing me around, tail wagging, so excited until I pick her up and hold her tight. When I pick her up, her little heart is pounding so bad that I'm afraid she's going to have a stroke and I just hold her real tight and let her lick my face until she calms down. We love each other so much.
Clothing: She has two cute little skirts that we got at the teddy bear store. One is an embroidered denim skirt and one is a white and pink one with a ruffle around the bottom. She also has her first bathing suit which is a little leopard skin one piece with sequins. She has her own little pink blankee with a puppy head that squeaks on it. They have a dog fashion show near here that I'd love to enter her in if I can remember and have the time. Not sure when it is, I'll be sure to get photos if we go.
UPDATE (28, March 2006)
I registered for Sunshine to be included on the a local tourist attraction call the 'Dogs of Grayton Beach'. It's in an area of artists and includes various locals pets with their names (and halos if gone) painted by local artists. So Sunshine will be memorialized forever :-)
I took her to an art show and she was quite the attraction. We've been walking on the beach every day and she just loves it. She runs after the birds like crazy. Everyone on the beach has to stop and see her :-). Turning into quite the celeb. Also I met a local artist that has a crest named Lola and we will be taking the girls to Saturday evening concerts in Seaside together.
PS: She got a collar with her name spelled out in Pink Rhinestone Letters in gold setting LOL. Such the little diva.
Thanks for everything
UPDATE (18 February, 2007)
Our little girl got a kidney infection. She was becoming incontinent at night and losing her appetite so I took her to the vet. I'm not how but maybe from smelling faeces, the vet said. She's being treated with antibiotics and the vet said that he thought she was twice as old as we thought (maybe 8-10 years old). Her kidneys are showing some signs of being compomised and he says that he's not sure if it's age or the kidney infection. So we've got puppy pampers for the little sweetie at night and we're hoping that the medicine will do the trick. Will keep you posted.
Above are some photos of the 4th of July and also a beach party that we went to at Halloween. We all dressed up as 'Miss Kitty'.
UPDATE (29 March, 2007)
We just got back from the vet and Sunshine's kidney function is normal. The vet said that the kidney problems in March were almost certainly caused by the poisoned dog food and the quarter of a can that she had since Sunday wasn't enough to cause problems. So the kidney damage was not permanent, thank heaven! I just can't believe that I could have lost her from that bad food. She does have a small bladder infection which may be related to the food but very treatable and no other problems so we've started antibiotics and my little baby is going to be fine.
We love each other so much. She is by my side constantly and if I go out somewhere, she runs to my mom. We went to Key West last week and she was quite the hit on Duval Street. She drew so much attention in her little outfits and bathing suits. The clubs and restaurants are very pet friendly there! She even got a Key West T-Shirt. I discovered baby clothes at thrift stores and now I get the cutest dresses and alter them to fit her. She's the best dressed girl around and is clueless that she's not human and so am I.
