Hope's Haven - Nadia

UPDATE (17 April, 2006)

Nadia is so pretty. When we first got home, she walked into the kitchen and everyone came in and looked at her. Everyone is just aloof and accepting of her. The first hour, she pooped on the kitchen rug. After that, she is EXCELLENT at going outside! She knows what it means and twice has gone to the door when she wanted to go. I let them out and she goes. Then I let her in and give her a small treat. She couldn’t be more excellent with her routine.

Every night when I’m in the bathroom getting ready for bed, she peeks at me and then runs circles around the living room at 100 mph., then comes back, peeks at me and I yip at her and then she goes running circles again.

The Siamese loves playing with Nadia’s little feather-duster tail. Nadia has been trying to play with her; she barks and yips and runs around then runs back at the cat. It’s really funny.

She sleeps next to me on my bed and last night she slept under the covers. Today is the first day I’m gone all day. When I’ve left the house before, I put her in my room, where she is today. I put her blanket on a large oval cat bed which is the perfect size for her, then put that bed on my bed for her when I’m gone. Otherwise, it’s on the couch in the living room.

She acts like a little guard dog and barks when people walk by outside.

THE WALKS:

We’ve been walking at the big area by the airport. I can see that she’s not that comfortable there - she is for sure, a Miss Putz. She just stops and smells everything and putzes. When I attach her leash, she then comes with me. Last night was the first walk (Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun,) where she seemed chipper and was walking along at my side like she is getting used to the place. She did really well. If I detatch her leash and see if she walks along with the pack, pretty soon I look back and there she is, stopped, putzing around like a goat. Then, she starts trotting off in another direction like she’s on her own mission, and I have to get her. It’s quite funny.

She’s very sweet, very smart and is missing her foster mom, but she is a trooper and is adapting well. I think she misses the interaction of her little buddies. Who wouldn’t?

UPDATE (May, 2007)

One year later, she is still doing so great. I just love her to pieces. She is one of the lights of my life! I still feel like I’m in puppy love with her! I always smile when I think of her.

She sleeps next to my shoulder every night. I have two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and a white shepherd mix. It has been an excellent year. We walk the trails in about six different nature areas here in Minneapolis, usually 1.5 hours about five or six days a week. She loves it and always leads the way. (She is always attached on her extender leash to me!)

She was bundled up in snowsuits and boots during the winter, but did skip about three weeks when the temperature got under 20 degrees. We are currently in week five of beginning obedience and she is one of teacher’s pets - of course!

Thank you for making my life so much more wonderful by existing to put these wonderful pets into our lives!
