Hope's Haven - Lucy

Lucy Lucy Lucy Lucy
Lucy has been adopted (23 June, 2007)!

UPDATE (27 October, 2007)

News about Lucy! Well where to start? She's adjusting quite well and she seems to enjoy her country life. She gets along quite well with the other dogs and she responds better when I tell her to leave the cats alone when outside. She has bonded tightly with me and she listens to me at about 90% of the time. We have been through obedience training and she did excellently. I took her to a class that was a bit crammed so she had to deal with bigger dogs around her. She was good about having two big bouncy dogs around her at the end. She is now doing agility with me. She is not sure about a couple of things but we are getting there. She will build confidence along the weeks and will get better and better. Other than this she is lovely and seems to be an happy dog.

We had two fosters in the past two months (a Bichon-mix and an Australian Kelpie) and she did well with them. We may have another for a couple of weeks soon so that's good for her. We also go to a meet-up group for small dogs and she is not sure yet if she likes it. At least she is with other small dogs. Lucy is also now my small dog home-check buddy. She comes with me to test future adoptant's homes. She not quite fond of it yet but that helps her to socialize.

UPDATE (6 December, 2007)

Lucy is doing well. We now have completed basic agility and she will get to come with me for the club day at the Calgary Agility Club when I go with Taco. She seems to like it and I think she'll be good once I can wean her off the treats! She can be off the leash during the class and she doesn't go away and stays close by me at all times. She is not scared of the big dogs anymore and she likes to come for hikes with the whole pack. She likes to get some chew sticks and she likes to take the stuffies off the other dogs and hide them in my bed!

She recently got a haircut and we are working on the skin as she has a lot of blackheads and dry skin. She has bonded very closely with me and she wouldn't survive without me, I think! She has come a long way and I'm glad. She's still a project in the making but we are getting there!

UPDATE (22 January, 2008)

Lucy is doing fine. She likes the snow but thinks it's a bit cold. She likes to run in it but it never lasts for long. She now thinks she's a herding dog as she has been helping Taco with the horses lately. She won't get near the horses though. She enjoys her walk in my backpack as it's too cold for her. She gets along well with all the dogs and the cats at home. She's really settled in nicely. We are going back to agility mid-February and she's now a member of Calgary Agility Association. I will order her AAC card soon so she can start competing. She's really good at it. Truly beyond my expectations!

UPDATE (22 June, 2008)

She's a lot of fun to have around and she's much loved. We are still doing agility and some obedience classes. On one of our obedience classes we had a playdate with the other dogs and she did pretty well considering there were big dogs in the group. She didn't bite or snap or even bare her teeth at any of them. I was pretty impressed. Maybe in a couple of months or years (not sure when I will be ready) I will get a little crestie friend for Lucy. We'll see when the time comes.

She now does a funny thing. She will put herself in a bow position on the couch leaning over the back rest and slide herself along it. She will then try to push her bum over her head. She does it for a couple of seconds and then falls asleep.
