BackUPDATE (9 October, 2005)
Lego is doing great. He is a real sweetie. I can't get over how much he loves to be touched! It's like all he lives for. He spent the entire night on the sofa while we watched TV, and was right up against me. He is a bit like Mica, in that whenever I get up, he follows me and waits with me. When I was on the computer last night, he was on the rug under the table the entire time.
He is such a little goof ball. He will rub and roll on the sofa and on my leg. He does the silliest groans and moans while he does it, and his tail goes a mile a minute. When he lays down to go to sleep he lets out the biggest, loudest sighs I have ever heard.
He has only yipped a few times when he has gotten really exited. This morning, the dogs thought they heard someone come to the house and they all ran barking to the sofa to jump up and look out the window. Even Lego barked. When nobody showed up, and I came out to tell them everything was okay Lego got so excited he ran little circles on the sofa and yipped. Ming was very concerned, and Lady was convinced I was doing something to hurt him! He yipped a bit when a friend came over later this morning. He jumped right up into her lap and licked her face, groaned and yipped while she petted him.
He can jump right up into a bed too. Made himself at home last night while we were getting ready for bed. Then he slept in Mica's bed for the night. About 5 AM I heard him fluffing his blanket. So I reached down to help him out. Big mistake. He was so excited he jumped out of his bed and ran circles, then jumped up to see me and slobbered all over us. Lady decided it must be time to wake up, so she jumped up too. I decided to take them downstairs to see if they wanted to go out. Lego went out front to mark some flower pots, but Lady just watched. While we were down there Ming came down too. So, we stayed down and the dogs had breakfast at 5:30 this morning.
The only other time he has cried is whenever we get ready to put the leash on him. As soon as he sees it he gets all excited and jumps up on me so I can put it on, but then he cries as soon as I reach for his collar. Once it is on he is fine, but he has been a bit of a goof on the walks. He acts as if he has never seen grass in his life. Reminds me of Mica again. When I try to get him into the grass he just puts on the brakes and looks for a road or sidewalk around the grass! He will walk along the sidewalk and mark everything in sight (bushes, trees, posts) but has not yet gone into the grass to have a bowel movement. I guess he will when he is ready. He goes out in the front courtyard and will sniff in the grassy areas. Out back he marks all of the patio furniture. I carried him out to the middle of some grass on a walk this morning and put him down. He stood frozen like he didn't know what to do. So I picked him up and carried him back to the sidewalk.
Lego loves the home cooked food. Took him a few minutes to figure out how to eat it. At dinner last night, he dropped a carrot on the floor and chased it around on the tile for about 30 seconds trying to get it into his mouth. It was cute. He then proceeded to sneak over to Lady's bowl and eat most of her food before I caught him. Lady was not very hungry last night because of the cookies they had all gotten. She is the one dog that will never have a weight problem. I will have to keep an eye on Lego until he learns that he can't eat from other dogs' bowls.
He hasn't played yet, but he really spends most of his time in somebody's lap. He just loves sitting with someone and being petted. All the dogs are getting along though. Even Elise was wagging her tail at him when she visited last night. Must be because he is a guy. Ming is fine with him now. She was wagging her tail at him this morning when he was jumping around her and licking her face. She did look at me on occasion with this "what on earth is up with this dog?" look. But otherwise they seem to get along. Lady just wishes he would play. I'm sure he will in time. For now he is getting too much people attention.
UPDATE 2 (December 2005)
Lego is doing fine - just the best dog - such a sweetheart. If we are out front and the neighbors are out, he trots right over to them wagging his tail begging for attention. When I get home he runs to the door, yapping and crying until the door is opened. Then he rushes out, jumps up and down yipping while I pet him and will not even begin to settle down until he can slobber on my face a few times. Usually, once Lego has had enough petting, he runs off, grabs a toy and tears around the house shaking it, growling, and eventually holds it down and literally tears at the toy!
Boy, does he get comfortable when he sleeps! I have never heard a dog sigh as loud a he does once he is settled in. Whether it is on the sofa or in his bed. He snuggles down and once he is ready to sleep lets out a moaning sigh that can be heard across the house! And he loves to be covered up. If he wakes up and has removed the covers he will hop up into bed to wake me. Then I put him back in and tuck the blankets all around him and he is fine. Sometimes he still wakes up a bit early - 5:45 or 6:00 - and we let him under the covers to sleep for the next half hour or so. He just LOVES that.
