Chulo has been adopted (11 March, 2007)!
UPDATE
We are home safe and sound and I know he will be just fine. He is just so gentle I can't believe it. He loves the yard and is snooping around. I do feel bad though as he keeps finding his leash, almost as if he is trying to tell me he is ready to go home. I am sure it will take a few days and he is melting our hearts already.
UPDATE (27 October, 2007)
I just wanted to let you know that Chulo is doing really great. He has turned into quite the little man and is doing absolutely wonderfully. Chulo loves camping and going in the canoe! He is also quite the little swimmer. I will make sure to send some pictures soon. Thanks for everything.
UPDATE (4 May, 2008)
It's hard to believe that a year has come and gone already. Chulo is doing wonderfully! He is such a smart boy and is the love of our lives. He and Sarah are joined at the hip for the most part. I was worried she might maul him but he loves it and just can't get enough of it. He has been her little guardian angel and the two of them are the biggest cuddle bugs I have ever seen. I have lost my rocking chair however. That officially is now the property of Sarah and her baby. He has really grown into quite the little gentleman. He still has that mischievous side, but in a good, funny way. He also loves the cats and has especially made friends with two of them. You will find them curled up together and he plays with the one (Boe) and they love their wrestling matches. Boe, loves to clean him and will spend a lot of time grooming the bits of hair on his head, then when he has him just right, he curls up on him and goes to sleep.
I am still amazed that Chulo gets Sarah to bed. I get them both tucked in under the blankets and read them their story. Chulo looks like a little person laying there with his head on the pillow beside hers and cuddles right into her. Somehow he knows to stay in bed with her until she falls asleep, then he manages to get out of her bed without waking her and comes to the door and just gives one quiet whimper until I tell him to come then he darts down the hall and sleeps in my bed for the rest of the night. It is like he asks for permission to see if his job is done.
Coty, my Shepherd, is unfortunately getting old and I can see her fading slowly. She is now almost 12, her hips are getting bad and she also has an enzyme deficiency that we are treating. She doesn't seem to be in any pain, but I can see that look in her eyes that life isn't as fun as it used to be and she follows me around more then ever. She is not happy unless she is right under my feet. She does like Chulo however and I think his being here has given her some comfort and brought the puppy back out of her. I think Chulo really likes the comfort of not being the only dog. He really likes Coty and tries to get her to play, but she just can't anymore. They wait for each other to go outside together and find comfort in each other. They also stay in the dog room together while we are out. I got Chulo a huge crate for his bed and he waits for Coty to get settled on her little bed, then goes right in his crate.
