Hope's Haven - Bella

Bella Bella Bella Bella
Bella has been adopted (2 June, 2006)!

UPDATE (7 June, 2006)

I caught Bella and Boykitty ‘kissing’ last night! Bella and Millie were in beds next to each other when I was doing some laundry last night - so cute. I think Bella and Millie are going to be fine.

I found a whole pill and a 1/2 pill in Bella’s dish after I fed her last night. That lil' stinker. I then gave them to her in yoghurt and she was fine. There has been no more coughing. I treated her skin with gold bond plus last night before bed and I hope it works. The only thing is, she likes to lick it off her paws - the very place she needs it most.

I picked up a supplement oil for Bella’s food to help with itching. It's supposed to be really good. I got Bella a purple harness, collar, and leash. I'll see how it looks on her. I think of purple as an exotic, regal, fun and different color - the same adjectives I would use for baby Bella!

UPDATE (11 June, 2006)

Well, that little Bella! I just can't tell you how crazy I am about her. She found a little fuzzy ball I bought for the kitties and chased it when I threw it and she's great on walks. She just trots along next to me at a steady pace. She doesn't seem to be crazy about leashes though, in general, although she is good and lets me use one. I am going to try to make her something lighter weight. Last night Bella and Millie and I went for a ride with the grandma. We drove past a guy walking a big dog and Bella whipped her little head around to stare. What a flirt! We only drove slowly through back neighbourhoods so Bella and Millie could look out the window while being held. I'm going to get car seats that rise up high when I find them.

I'm feeding Bella half of her ration in the morning because I feed my other babies twice a day and I don't want her to feel left out. In the evening she gets her other half along with her pills and the skin supplement I bought her. Boy, can that girl ever eat fast!

I haven't heard any more coughing. I really just think maybe she just got a fluff of cat hair in her mouth or something.

Bella is perfect with the other babies. She has gone nose-to-nose with everyone with no problem. She doesn't get jealous when I hold someone else either.

I can hardly pass her and look at that little face without going over to kiss her and snuggle her. It was hard to leave this morning for work. It's raining out and I just wanted to stay home with everyone.

UPDATE (14 June, 2006)

Bella is just so precious and I absolutely love her to pieces. It's funny, because Millie is perking up a bit and I think it might be from seeing Bella meet me at the door and get so excited. Last night Bella was so funny - she was barking, talking and flipping around and then ran to the sofa and jumped up and did her silly little ‘head-in-the-pillow dance’! What a character she can be! So maybe Millie is thinking "hey - maybe I shouldn't be taking mom for granted"!

Bella sleeps in the bed every night. She can jump right up on it with no problem. What a cuddle-bunny.

She sits by me when I put make-up on for work. I had my make-up in a little plastic bin on the floor by my feet and she stuck her little nose in and starting to take stuff out!

No big problems here with the storm. Leaves and tree stuff on the ground, but that's about it. Bella seemed fine during the wind and rain.

We haven't quite gotten the potty routine down pat. I praise her and say ‘potty’ over and over when we go out and she does go potty and then gets a treat. Sometimes she almost acts a little afraid to go outside. Maybe it's the sound of the garage door opening. She's so funny - she always waits for me to go in or out first. Maybe she thinks I'm going to leave her behind or something! I haven't used the diaper at night yet. She has had one accident in the bed but I just changed the sheets. No big deal. That little cutie could pee on my favourite blouse and I wouldn't be mad! I figure pooches are not really much different than kids, and we clean up after kids all the time.

We were on lying on the couch watching a cooking show the other night. Bella was snuggled in front of me and she kept turning her head way up and back to look at me. That little dog is so precious and so responsive.

UPDATE (16 June, 2006)

Today is the two-week anniversary of Bella’s adoption into my furry family. She cried when her foster mom drove off, so I tried to distract her with singing. After that, I figured we hit it off pretty well when she kept trying to give me kisses all the way home as I drove.

Bella's calm personality has made the transition so easy with my two cats and my other two dogs. She has been caught ‘kissing’ one of my kitties and rubbing faces with my little Papillion, so I know she intends to be friends with all.

She is getting lots of love and attention and returns it tenfold. When I come home, she gets very excited and barks, talks and then runs over and hops up on the sofa and onto her blanket to do what is affectionately known around here as ‘the big head dance’ (don't ask - you would just have to see it!) She sleeps in the bed every night and loves to snuggle under the covers. She has been known to snore, which is quite a surprise coming from that dainty little body of hers. Of course, she has also been known to let out some pretty healthy burps when I hold her after dinner, which by-the-way she downs in record time, so I guess she doesn't worry about feminine pretences around here!)

I have found that her third favourite thing, after snuggling and eating, is chewing on the big square dental chewies I get from my vet. She works those things like it's her job and she's being paid to do it! She ought to have the freshest breath in town.

As with my other little ones, Bella has acquired a few nicknames already. She is also known as ‘Bellarina’, ‘boney-maroney’, ‘Belladancer’ (a nickname she came with), ‘moon-pie’ and the longest one – ‘itsy bitsy teeny weeny polka dotted Bellarini’.

She is much more beautiful than her photo shows and has the softest skin ever. Her eyes are very expressive and in general she is just a very responsive and loving little soul. I am absolutely crazy about her and feel so lucky to have been chosen to be her new mom.

UPDATE (22 July, 2006)

My beautiful little Bella is doing great. I really, really, really love that little girl. How could anyone not. Every time I hold her or even look at her she just melts my heart and she can be funny! She makes me laugh sometimes. She likes to jump up on the back of the sofa and then come over to me above my head and start slithering down my shoulder to my lap. What a character she can be and she is hysterical when she howls and talks.

Believe it or not, I’m still looking for a new collar for her since the first one was too small. Geez, you'd think I was looking for a darn prom dress or something. Got to have just the right one. Anyway, I’ve changed my mind and am now looking for just the right collar in either polka dots or animal spots.

I bought Bella a little pink-feathered neck-wrap at the downtown pet shop last week. It is made of soft, fine feathers like her little sweater.

UPDATE (23 March, 2009)

Little Bella is just fine. I clipped her nails two nights ago and she never budged an inch. Such a good girl - though she does still love to get into mom’s purse and the trash can!

Yesterday we were in the car and she was sitting sideways on my lap (I was going slowly, of course and carefully). She rested her little head back on my chest and just looked up at me and it was so sweet!

She has some cool clothes. A lime green parka, two pink and white parkas, a bright yellow raincoat, an orange and pink hoodie, a mint green jogging outfit, a little pink suede and fur hat with ear flaps for really cold days, some pink booties, some adorable pyjamas, a spider outfit for Halloween and a Hell’s Angel leather visor that really doesn’t go with her personality but was just too cute.

Her favourite time of day is still going up to bed at night. Sometimes she tries to get me to go up before I’m ready!

I found some of the softest little throws ever and bought a bunch of them so everyone can have clean bedding while the others are being washed. No mater how many beds, pillows and stuff I get, I find they all still just love something they can swish around and make a nest in. It really is quite a production at night when Bella makes her nest. I actually have to hold the covers in place a bit while she does her thing underneath them. It is so funny.
