Avon has been adopted recently.BackUPDATE 1
Its been 4 weeks and I'm delighted with how well the whole family is getting along. I give Avon's sweet personality most of the credit, but Joe has been super, too and even the kitties are starting to warm up to her.
Avon's ears are all better and she is scheduled to have her teeth cleaned this Thursday. She and Joe had a great time at Petsmart last Saturday when I took them together (with my Mom to help hold leashes) for a follow-up on Avon's ears and to have their bloodwork done prior to their dental appts. Joe had his teeth cleaned Friday and its certainly a good thing that dad had the day off, because Avon was very upset that both Joe and I left without her. In future, Avon will go when Joe goes.
We are just so happy to have her with us. Her new dad dotes on her, my Mom thinks she's pretty special and I love her like I love Joe. Thanks again for being there for her when she needed rescuing.
UPDATE 2
Well, its been 3+ months and I can't imagine our lives without Avon. She is so lovable, silly and endearing; also demanding when she wants food, to play or just tummy rubs. She really lets you know when its time to put down a book or ignore the TV in favor of her wishes, but it’s easy because she is so entertaining.
She and Joe play together more than ever and I can only imagine the hijinks they get up to when we are not home. She also gets along great with the cats, very respectful but not a kitty doormat either.
Avon is becoming a great traveller - she and Joe went with us for a week to visit my family. Avon (Joe, too) was a big hit with most everyone she met. Joe and Avon both had their teeth cleaned in August and occasionally they get to go to PetsMart on buying trips and bring a new toy home almost every trip, because although the toys stay mostly intact they usually manage to kill the squeakers in them after a week or so.
Now that its starting to cool off, Avon has started wearing little T-shirts to keep her warmer at night sleeping and whenever she goes outside in the cooler mornings and evenings. She is as cute dressed up as she is "nude",
Thank you again, more than you know, that you were there when she needed to be rescued and that you allowed us to adopt her. She, along with Joe, Dipsy and Spike are great joys in our lives.
UPDATE 3 (15 July, 2006)
Wow - it will be a year tomorrow that we picked Avon up and brought her home. We love her very much and she enriches our lives.
She and Joe went to Montana with us (last summer) to meet my Dad and maternal relatives, they go to the dunes with us where Avon loves to walk in the sand and smell the different scents. We just got back from Reno, NV where Avon got to meet Robert's daughter and granddaughter. We stayed in a marvellous RV park next to a mile long riverwalk and both dogs loved their numerous daily walks along the river. Avon is a great traveller and rides calmly in the truck, usually sleeping until we make a stop while Joe is less blasé about car trips and has to chase oncoming vehicles from the front seat to the back seat whenever he can.
Joe and Avon are both current on the their shots and I will be taking them for their dental next month. I've started taking them together most times since Avon really gets upset if I leave the house with Joe. I don't know if they love each other, but they get along really well, share their toys and tear around the house playing games. Avon gets along well with Spike (our 9-year-old cat) too and he tolerates her attempts to play, even reciprocating with a game of 'stalking' once in awhile.
Very sadly our cat Dipsy passed away late this spring, she was 20 years old. We miss her, but the rest of the gang are a pretty active distraction.
I've attached a few pictures - hope you like them. Thank you again with all my heart for allowing us to adopt Avon, she is a very special girl!
